How to Organize your Closet

Closet organization can be a struggle during the year, as it takes so much time, energy and sometimes money. On the contrary, it does not have to be an excruciating experience, but it can actually be a fun way to keep, and clear out some of your space, to make room for other thing. Here are some tips for organizing a closet.

Simplify Storage

Simplifying your storage can be an easy way to clean your closet area, while also making it easier for you to keep it clean. For example, if you make things easier to put away, you will be more likely to put them away. This is great for keeping the space cleared out for the long-run and makes it better for you, because it decreases the amount of time, in the future, spent on cleaning and organizing your closet. Next, making sure that you use open shelves for hard to put away, or hard to find pieces of clothing is a great way to avoid losing that one sock. This will ensure that you can find items no matter what, and keeps you less frustrated during the year. Another route you could follow is using stacked hangers to plan out outfits ahead of time. This saves you time and energy, and if you only wear a shirt with a specific skirt, this could be very useful for you.

Get Rid of Things you don’t Need

By getting rid of clothing and accessories that you no longer need, you are making room for newer items, or storage room for alternative items. Make sure that before you organize your closet, that you go through each item and ask—do I really wear this? Do I need this? After you ask these questions, you will be able to donate, recycle, or sell clothing to get rid of the old.

Utilize Floor Space

Utilizing floor space can be very useful, and also be used as a place for open space shelving. You can also use this space for items of clothing that you don’t need year round, such as out of season clothing, fancy clothing, clothing you won’t wear everyday and Halloween costumes. This could be used as a space to place and organize shoes as well.

Maintain your Closet

Last, but not least, making sure you maintain your clean closet can help you in the future. The more clean it is kept in the present, the less you have to clean it later on. In order to try to stay on top of this, it may be nice to try scheduling out your closet cleans, based on season, day of the year or a specific event, like when you lose your first shirt.

In totality, it may be a pain to clean and organize a closet, however, it can be a blessing as well. To learn more about our services or to schedule an appointment, contact us today or give us a call at  508-788-9070.
